Manifesto
Add more subjects to the education system
We would lobby to introduce compulsory education on how to gain employment, manage finances, and politics. This would promote communication skills, knowledge about current affairs and prepare students for life outside the classroom.
We want to improve sex and relationship advice within personal, social, and health education classes - including more advice and awareness for LGBTQ+ youth.
-
Curriculum control from workers within the field
People in charge of the education system should not merely be politicians or business people. They should be professionals with a background in education and teaching who have a solid interest in the improvement of the curriculum.
-
University fees
Campaign to abolish university fees whilst improving the support for all students throughout their studies. Increased maintenance loans so students are able to support themselves through university.
-
Rent caps
Stop landlords taking advantage by introducing rent caps in order to help students and families on lower incomes.
-
Support for people leaving compulsory education
Higher wages for apprentices and more support programs for those not going to university in order to assist them in gaining full-time employment/careers.
-
Increased minimum wage
Push for the minimum wage to be at least at the living wage; this would lead to people being able to support themselves on one minimum-wage job and would provide motivation for people to gain employment rather than remain on benefits.
-
Support for people in higher education
Introduce a weekly payment scheme for students from low-income families who need this essential support in order to travel to and from school or college, as well as being able to feed themselves on a daily basis and afford educational materials.
-
Stop the privatisation of the NHS
Support any increase in funding for the NHS and keep it in the hands of the people and out of the corporations' grasp, whilst ensuring that people with a medical background run the NHS, removing politicians and business people who have no direct experience.
-
Social housing
Increase social housing facilities. Make social housing more accessible to improve the British housing situation and reduce homelessness.
-
Improved facilities for mental health
Increase the services for people suffering from mental health issues. This includes providing sufficient treatment and support for addicts and people who are made vulnerable in society by their mental health problems.
-
Niamh says her campaign is more than just a protest vote.
Although she is a teenager campaigning to give young people a voice, this doesn't mean we are excluding the needs of the older generations. Many of the problems teenagers experience are the same as those of older people. We feel that we are being denied access to the support that others get because of the perception that young people are in some way separate.
If you feel disconnected from politics, then Niamh is here to listen to your voice and represent you.
